VI.3)Additional Information: Norfolk’s three acute hospitals have teamed up to form the Eastern Pathology Alliance (EPA) which provides pathology services to practices in Norfolk and Waveney. The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH), the James Paget University Hospital and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital at King’s Lynn have been working together for the last two years to form a merged pathology service. The EPA service will provide GP pathology services from the NNUH laboratory, with all three Trust laboratories being managed by the NNUH.
In addition, the Norfolk and Waveney Cellular Pathology Network, formed from the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital and the James Paget University Hospital also provides pathology services from NNUH.
Both services require an integrated transport service to maintain the integrity of all samples, collecting from each surgery or community location and delivering to specified laboratories to a regular schedule. This would also include regular transport of samples between the 3 hospital sites.
It should be noted that the transport service should be designed primarily around the requirements for the EPA to meet their contractual requirements for a 4 hour sample collection to delivery time
In addition to this service, the transport organisation would be expected to deliver consumables, pharmaceutical products, instruments, patient notes, mail, and ad hoc non scheduled passenger transportation.
The Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust is eligible to participate and benefit in a resultant contract , and as such may utilise accordingly, subject to agreement of the participating Trusts namely the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust; The Queen Elizabeth Hospitals Kings Lynn NHS Foundation Trust and James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust; (The Authority).
