Title: Tate Gallery Visual Identity Review
1)Short Description:
Tate Gallery is seeking to review its visual identity in response to a new Tate vision and brand proposition. The successful agency will be required to conduct an audit of the current identity system and its current application, and make recommendations for the development of that system. Once an approach has been agreed the agency will be required to implement Tate’s visual identity for a number of key outputs including marketing materials, digital content and in the physical environment of our galleries. They will also be required to oversee the broader implementation of the proposed system by Tate’s internal design team to ensure quality control, and produce a set of clear visual identity guidelines. This review should take an objective view of Tate’s brand expression through its visual identity. The current system, originally developed in 1998, has helped Tate become one of the most recognised and celebrated cultural brands in the world. It should, therefore, not be assumed that Tate are seeking to replace the core assets of the existing visual identity, principally our logo and typeface. Rather Tate is seeking an intelligent and considered approach to the evolution of the Tate brand. The review is expected to take 9 months to complete with a further period thereafter for support to be agreed with the successful agency.

The successful agency will be required to develop key campaigns for Tate, linked to the artistic programme of exhibitions and learning, in addition to strategic projects including the launch of the new Tate Modern in 2016 and the new Tate St Ives in 2017. The agency is required to collaborate with Tate to develop innovative ideas that respond to and articulate Tate’s newly developed brand proposition, and to extend the reach and appeal of Tate among our target audiences. Tate is looking for creative thinking to bring its work to life in innovative and imaginative ways, and so remain media neutral in terms of specific outputs. The successful agency will be required to manage the delivery of their proposed solutions, in collaboration with the Tate marketing, communication and design teams.
