      Super computer. Maintenance of mainframe computers. Computer storage units. Computer-related services. Technical computer support services. This tender process will be used to select a Tenderer to replace the existing High Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructure and to assist with the development of the HPC service at the University of Bath. The base design is outlined in this document and is for the purposes of evaluating tender responses.
We are looking for a largely homogeneous cluster design suitable for running MPI based workloads, with the addition of specialised compute islands of GPGPU, Xeon Phi and large-memory systems. The system should have advanced remote visualisation capabilities to enable researchers to visualise large and complex datasets.
Overview of the requirements for the new HPC system:
•   Minimum of 2,048 standard compute cores
•   GPU and Xeon Phi compute nodes
•   Development zone
•   Large memory capability
•   Remote visualisation capability
•   A high performance, low latency interconnect for MPI and I/O traffic
•   A high performance parallel filesystem
•   Login/submission nodes
•   Cluster management layer
It is important that the response clearly presents a holistic solution, with the specified components fully integrated to deliver a complete working solution for the HPC service and its researchers; this covers the entire approach, from installation, commissioning and acceptance to the on-going service delivery over the term of the contract. The Tenderer will be willing to commit to specific delivery dates, and performance levels and will be able to offer opportunities for partnership and for innovative development of the new service in the arena of HPC.
