The BFI announces its intention to invest in the creation of a digital infrastructure for the benefit of the national collection and UK film archives as part of the 'Unlocking Film Heritage' strand of the 'Film Forever' programme. This programme will provide the capability of managing large quantities of data for the purposes of public and institutional access and preservation over the coming decades

Central to these objectives will be the creation of a mechanism for the safe and secure storage of preservation master materials and the availability of low resolution proxies derived both from the legacy analogue and born digital moving image materials. From this core infrastructure a range of capabilities and tools will enable users to view, select and re-purpose and securely move content.
The BFI will only consider responses from potential providers that are capable/confident of delivering the entire requirement of this opportunity, whether undertaken alone, in consortium or via sub-contracting
