The British Museum shall decide at Contract Award stage which of the purchasing models represents best value. Please study the Specification to ensure that you are able to meet the British Museum’s requirements. Prospective candidates should particularly note the following requirements of the Specification for the Mobile Devices: Operating System: Android 4.4 or equivalent. Screen size: 4.5" minimum diagonal; 6” maximum diagonal. Memory: minimum 32GB to accommodate all languages, either built in the device or added with an SD card. RAM minimum 1.5GB. WiFi: required for over the air updates to software, content and analytics download. The project is due to launch to the public on 1st December 2015. This initiative is a development to the current project (ending on 1st December 2015), in which the Museum presently uses smartphone devices as Multimedia guides for some of its special temporary exhibitions and audio visual devices for its permanent galleries. For this new procurement, we require cost-effective Mobile Devices that will provide the functionality we require without sacrificing on customer experience. The British Museum will be developing the content and leading the interface design and software development. It will manage the hire of and revenue collection from the Mobile Devices in-house. In addition to the Mobile Devices themselves, we wish the successful candidate to provide supporting accessories including charging racks, headphones and lanyards. The British Museum may also require the successful candidate to provide occasional ad hoc integration expertise for the software and content on the Mobile Devices. The successful candidate will also provide on-going support and maintenance of the Mobile Devices for the duration of the contract. The number of Mobile Devices required for the permanent galleries is 1000. A forecast of the number of Mobile Devices that the British Museum will require each month will be included in the Invitation to Tender document. The Specification of the Mobile Devices that the British Museum will require for launch (December 2015) is detailed in the Invitation to Tender document, and is comparable to those offered by consumer smartphones on the market at this time. The British Museum will also require the provision of Mobile Device Management (MDM) system software to enable on-demand updates to be made to application software and to the operating system. Such requirement is essential to continually provide the British Museum visitors with the best multimedia guide experience the market has to offer.
