There are approximately 59 roofs and allowing for the combination of materials in the order of 200 different roof parts. Their ages range from 1880 to 1995 with a large proportion being constructed in 1905 and about half having been given major refurbishment. The maintenance of the roofs is of paramount importance as the leading museum of art, design and performance. The Museum relies on the integrity of the roofs to ensure the collection is safe and that the environment is conducive to visitor engagement and access.
